Active Play Programs

Tournament of Champions
In this action packed program, children will participate in a variety of games, such as street hockey, soccer, football, dodgeball, basketball, wiffle ball, and many others! In addition to learning the fundamentals of these sports, we will have exciting discussions about current events in sports, learn the importance of maintaining a healthy active lifestyle, and reinforce in-class learning using sports cards and prizes.  Each participant will receive a daily sports prize.
A Step Toward Sports – Ages 3-5

Come join the Sports Zone 101 coaches as we get our bodies moving with exciting learning activities and teach the basics of a few of our favorite sports. We will spend time getting to know each other, learn more about the way our bodies move, and explore new ways to stay active and have fun doing it! We will introduce five core sports: Soccer, T-Ball, Touch Football, Frisbee, and Dodgeball, and help develop your child’s sensory and gross motor skills in our exciting Preschool program!

An Intro to Golf – Putting and Chipping

Golf is a lifelong sport. The smell of the fresh-cut grass, the crisp morning air, the feeling of the perfect tee shot – it’s hard not to love a few hours on the greens. But what makes golf even better is playing with friends and loved ones. We can’t promise that we will produce the next pro golfer in our program, but we can guarantee that your children will have lots of fun, be introduced to traditional golf grips and hitting stances, and get a little practice with putting and chipping. Using the U.S. Kids Golf Early Start program, each class will consist of short lessons followed by small group activities. Our goal is to introduce the children to the game of golf in a fun and interactive way so they can join you on the greens one day!

Backyard Masters

Let’s be honest, school in the Winter can be a drag. Most of us have been there – sitting in class dreaming about last Summer, or planning some of the things we want to do once the Sun comes out of hiding. But what if there was a way to escape the frigid temperatures, even if only for an hour, and recapture the excitement and freedom the Summer brings? Well, that is exactly what we are offering in our Backyard Masters program! Your children will participate in weekly challenges and tournaments using some of our favorite lawn game classics like Corn Hole, Ladderball, Kan Jam and more…! There will be individual and team games, with the chance to win cool  mini prizes each week. Don’t miss out on this little slice of Summer while it lasts!

Frisbee Golf

Disc golf is one of the fastest-growing outdoor activities. Similar to golf, the goal of disc golf is to complete each hole in as few throws, or strokes, as possible. Instead of using golf clubs and a golf ball, disc golfers use a flying golf disc to cross the hole.  Each hole starts with a teeing area and is completed once the disc lands in the “hole”, aka disc-catching target.  While disc golf can be played with just one disc, the discs are designed to fly with different characteristics. Different discs can be used to hook and curve around obstacles, roll on the ground, or fly over trees! Players can bring their own disc golf discs for this program, but it is not required!

Each week our team will create new mini courses for the students to compete on. There will also be fun challenges for the students to complete. Disc golf is fantastic because it is low intensity, and there is very little risk of injury, but players still get really good exercise, not to mention spending quality time interacting with their peers and coaches! This program is open to both boys and girls.

Active Education Ultimate Disc League
Have you ever seen kids forget to pass the ball to anyone else on their team? Have you seen the local star athlete steal the show while the other kids look around wondering why they never get the ball? We have certainly seen it with our students, and that is one reason we love Ultimate so much at Active Education. Ultimate Frisbee gives all students an opportunity to participate because it requires passing, communication, and strategic movement. Also, Ultimate is a great sport to get involved in because it promotes continuous movement and is inherently non-contact. Running just to run can be boring, but your students will get a wealth of exercise and have loads of fun by participating in our Ultimate Disc League!
Pickleball With Active Education
Pickleball is a fast-paced racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. With a focus more on hand-eye coordination than stamina or physical prowess, and played on a small court, pickleball is fun for all ages and skill levels! Game instruction will be provided on week one with plenty of time for practice. We will provide all necessary equipment for participation in this program, but feel free to bring your own pickleball gear if you have it!
Extreme Dodgeball Classic
This program will introduce children to the nearly endless different styles of dodgeball. We will be teaching Dr. Dodgeball, Prize Ball, Elimination, Army, Ring of Fire, and many more… Each week will be a new adventure of team, individual, or tournament dodgeball. Sports cards will also be given out at the end of each program, with the opportunity to earn special prizes for play and behavior. Time to find the next Ultimate Dodgeball Player!
Sports Zone Battlegrounds – Nerf Edition

Come join the Sports Zone Lieutenants as we test our individual and team effectiveness in battle! This awesome program puts a fresh spin on traditional games like capture the flag, while also allowing children to get great exercise, learn some strategic planning skills, and make new friends. Each week will feature different games with individual and team-based challenges, so the students always have something new to strive for. We will also have all sorts of obstacles for the students to interact with, so they never know what to expect! There will be no shortage of fun in this program, and we provide all the necessary supplies, so join the excitement today!

Sports Explorations

Sports Management & Broadcasting

This exciting program gives children the opportunity to own and operate their own sports team, while also reinforcing in-class learning like mathematics, geography, and critical thinking! Each week we will take our students through a focused discussion of current events in sports, walk them through team composition options, and research potential trades. Before they even realize they are learning, your children will know the basic operations of professional sports teams and be able to apply what they have learned to a wide array of future activities. To top it off, your children will gain experience in their writing and communication skills as we also explore the world of sports broadcasting!

A Cut Above the Cards

We know our students love to trade the sports cards we give them at the end of our programs. They have their favorite players, favorite teams, and some even try to complete full rosters by trading with their friends! This class will give them the ability to learn the value of their cards, determine which trades would make the most sense for them, and negotiate terms for each trade. The kids will also learn about different stars of each sport, important events, great moments, and even discuss some low points in sports history, like steroids and pine tar in baseball.   At the end of each class, students will receive a pack of cards from the sport we highlighted that week. Time will be spent learning, discussing, and trading every week.

ESports: Beyond the Game - NHL

We know it might sound a little counterintuitive, but there is a lot that can be learned about your child’s favorite sport without them even breaking a sweat! The goal of our Esports: Beyond the Game program is to further educate kids about sports, utilizing a different platform. In this class specifically, we will be taking a more indepth look at the sport of Hockey. We’re going to learn about fundamentals, positioning, and strategy. Furthermore, kids will learn about teamwork and sportsmanship by playing together as opponents and teammates. Along with sportsmanship and teamwork, children will learn appropriate language and behavior to use while playing behind a screen   and why they are important. There will be team play and one on one play. All equipment  will be provided by the Sports Zone 101 team, but if your child has a controller that he or she would like to bring, please make sure it is labeled. For this program, we will be using Xbox. Hockey is a sport that a lot of our coaches enjoy and would like to teach kids about it in a way that engages them and keeps them entertained.

STEM and LEGO Education

LEGO Master Builder Jr.

It takes years of practice, determination, patience, and dedication to become a Lego Master Builder. Your child is in luck though because we have worked tirelessly to perfect our Lego teaching technique – so much so that within six short weeks, your child will receive a certificate proving that they have completed their Master Builder Jr. training! Come join us as we explore and create our wildest imaginations. We will also re-create some real-world buildings, landscapes, feats of engineering, and Wonders of the World!

We supply all Lego blocks and building guides for classes, but there will also be some time for free building during our classes if your child wants to bring in their own project.

Marble Run Fun

A Marble Machine is a creative ball-run contraption, made from familiar materials, designed to send a rolling marble through tubes and funnels, across tracks and bumpers, and into a catch at the end! Sure, Marble Runs are a ton of fun to make and to use, but they also make great engineering challenges for kids, they can be a fantastic tool for teaching children how to work collaboratively with their classmates and peers, and they allow children to explore problem solving in a fun and interactive way. We will supply all Marble Run sets for classes, but there will also be some time for free building during our classes if your child wants to bring in their own Marble Run set.

We will also have some creative building challenges using household items, so your child may ask for extra materials like toilet paper rolls, pool noodles, or cardboard. We accept most material donations for class, but do not feel obligated to contribute! .

The Wild World of Gaming
Sometimes it’s hard to find friends who want to sit down and play a game. But games can be such a great way to learn about ourselves, about each other, and to use our critical thinking skills. So we want to give students the opportunity to explore the wide world of gaming in a safe and exciting atmosphere. This program will be a mixture of adventure tabletop games, strategic board games, and sports related video games. This program will not include games that involve violence, gambling, or inappropriate themes.
We supply all games, but if your child has a board game he or she would like to bring in to show the class, that is perfectly fine. We may even play the game if time allows!
